“Basho the Sumo Wrestler” Sculpture and Glass-Topped Table

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Words fail to describe this very very interesting table of Basho !! the sumo wrestler. Crouched in the traditional wrestling stance, it looks just about ready to charge off in a drunken bash. Every feature of the Japanese sumo wrestler is replicated. From his mawashi ( Sumo Belt) to his classic pose, even the hair style is the same, but I must say that his body size seems abit exaggerated, they made him more rotund then usual. Man I don’t want to talk about the saggy manboobs they replicated. Opps, I just did.

Mounted on Bashos back is a 3/8 thick pencil-edged, round tempered glass top for clear views from any angle. Me thinks that this would make a very funky modern bar table. Man you’ll even get a great view of his ass from every angle because of the transparent glass top. And that must be why he’s looking down so bashfully. Throw out your conventional rectangular bar tables, get this and your life will be changed, and thats a promise.

Heralding the new revolution in design is Peter Marigold. Nowadays with the general populace being more aware of environmental issues like global warming and the like, organic themed designs based on nature are getting increasingly popular with the young crowd. Peter Marigold’s Octave series of furniture would be just right for those guys.

The unconventional shelving units appear to have a life of their own, reaching upwards towards the sunlight growing strong and tapering in a bunch towards the end. They replicate the movement of plants and foundlings they aim for the stars.  Peter Marigold’s quirky sense of style is reflected in the Octave series lending it’s ‘aura’ to your living space wherever it may be. Placed amongst your outdoor reception furniture, the organic weaves and curls of the shelf help to bring new life to your patio. If placed indoors, what better place for your oddities and curios then that?

AP BLOB/T Coffee Table Extraordinaire

Monday, November 26th, 2007

If what you need is a cheap and elegant solution to your bistro furniture problems, the AP Blob/T is just the coffee table for you. Constructed simply from a chrome sled steel frame in ply beechwood, which helps to keep costs down where it matters most. Also available in a wide range of woods such as wenge, maple, oak, rosewood, birch, mahogany, zebrano, ebony, or walnut for all your decorating needs.

Eschewing the conventional, the talented team of designers behind this have thrown out the standard square or circular shapes in coming up with something that vaguely resembles a treble clef, that is both pleasing to the eye and very practical.

The slight curve at the edges nicely accommodate your sidechair so that you might have an unobstructed place to relax and have tea. How about breakfast in bed ? The creatively designed table is also wide enough to straddle the bed (if you own a studio bed within the limits of 96cm) and light enough to carry for those weekend mornings with your loved one.

Falb

falb2.jpg

The Falb is just the chair for those of us which have more things dangling from us then a christmas tree. All the backpacks, cameras, handbags , coats, whatever actually. The Falb will take them all off your hands. Designed by a creative trio of Austrian designers , it seems tailor made for university student like us who just has too many gadgets and the like on our hands.

They have indeed thought of everything. The chair is quite unlike normal chairs in what might look like a bend in seat and a crooked leg. Weird as it might look, there is a really great reason behind it.The curve comfortably accommodates the items hanging from the top so as to make it less obstructive. Crooked it may be, but the leg is put at an angle to compensate for the extra weight bearing down from above resulting in a perfectly balanced seat.

La Deseo 2

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

If you’re looking for a no fuss no fluff bistro chair and have no idea where to find it, look no further. The La Deseo 2 will fulfill all your needs and more. Hardily constructed of Aluminum and bombproof Polypropylene I, it’ll take anything you can throw at it. Let us just look the materials and you decide yourself.

Aluminum by itself is very reactive but when exposed to air, a thin layer aluminum oxide is produced; this layer of aluminum oxide is very resistant to corrosion making it popular for use in a wide range of situations from the wings of a commercial aircraft to the humble cutlery you find at your table.

Polypropylene is very rugged and unusually resistant to many solvents, bases and acids. It is used in a wide range of applications including food packaging, textiles, lab equipment etc etc. No worries about leaving this plastic out in the acid rain, it’ll just come out sparkling.

OS Banc L’ORCHESTRE by Delo Lindo

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Interesting definitely, new and innovative – maybe not. When I first looked at it, it brought back memories of nightmares on the Gymnastic pommel horse, so similar are the designs. The tubular steel frame is simple to the point of being just a bolster suspended on 4 lacquered feet.

I’m a big fan of simple easy to understand designs and however plain this design is, It just tickles my heart strings in a way that might not do so in someone else. The comfortable top just makes me want to lie down on it, hug it and fall asleep. Somehow it just hits the right notes.

If your looking for a piece of contract reception furniture that’ll work for your comfy new home, this is just the thing. When placed against the wall it sure would make a comfortable Tv sofa to rest on.

The Island Aqua Collection by Francesco Rota looks great for a poolside bar. The structure is made of cataphoresis treated steel with a polyester varnish for weather-proofing and the feet are made of brushed stainless steel so no worries about getting this modular set wet.

Upholstered in Paola Lenti’s Rope Fabric, it is nearly indestructible. Rope is a proprietary fabric that is anti-bacterial, mould-resistant, and dirt-proof as well as being impervious to water. It is also UV-resistant and will not colour fade even when left outside for sometime. The fabric is also exceptionally wear resistant – no worries about replacing it for years to come.

The Arne Sofa by Antonio Citterio

Friday, November 16th, 2007

antonio_citterio_arne_sofa_sfz.jpg

The Arne Sofa designed by Antonio Citterio is an essential piece of modern bar furniture that should be made compulsory in every club in town. How can the greatness that is the Arne be ignored!! I don’t know whether if Arnold Schwarzenegger has one at home but it’ll be a real shame if he din have the chair which carries his namesake, the Arne.

The reviews of the Arne are near incomprehensible. Sentences that make no sense to me like “The modularity of Arne elements enables to obtain seats with different depths that can be arranged along the wall or in an open space configuration..” , the horribleness continues on . What a load of fluff. Let me give you my take on the Arne.

Marcel Wanders - V.I.P. Chair

This is ‘da’ V.I.P. Chair by Marcel Wanders. Specially made for World Expo 2000 , this is a soft toy lovers’ dream come true. Made out of a hidden steel frame covered with soft woolen upholstery this chair would appeal very much to the ‘furries’ indeed.

The rollers attached to the bottom of the chair enable the chair to be pushed along rather then carried. Marcel Wanders thought of everything indeed. No guests should have to carry their own seats much less VIP’s so he thoughtfully included wheels for them. Heck, they won’t even have to get out their chair to move around. They can just roll around in their furry chairs sipping champagne and toasting the crowd.
